Composting
Sprout Garden installed a three bin composting system the growing season of 2021! With the help of Sustainability Office Coordinator Sophie Seigel and Compost Intern and Drake student Jacob Lish we are now on the road to producing our own compost to keep the soil in the garden nourished.
Compost intern Jacob Lish has been leading the Sprout Composting program on campus by creating a partnership with the resident halls on Drake University to get students familiar with composting food waste. In 2021 Jacob held informative sessions with Drake Environmental Action League (DEAL) and the public to teach what can and cannot go into the bins. They also gave the collection bins in the residents hall and personal collection bins a fun splash of color!
