Welcome to Sprout

The sign reads:

Welcome to Sprout. Open to the Public Dusk-Dawn. Private property of Drake University.  Constructed in 2021, Sprout Learning Garden and Food Forest is a permaculture ecosystem of  hundreds of food-producing trees, shrubs, and edible perennials. Sprout provides much needed  urban green space for human visitors and important habitat for wildlife too!  We invite you to take a stroll, sit and relax, or grab a bite to eat from the Food Forest!  Below the text, in the bottom left corner, there is a QR code labelled: Share what you learned  with us!

The sign also features a map of the garden. The map is oriented with the southeast corner at  the top. The Learning Garden is at the top of the map, above the Food Forest and features the  four raised beds, the compost area, and the classroom seating. There are paths connecting the  Learning Garden and the Food Forest, which is located in the bottom half of the map and  marked with a red information pin.

Below the map, the sign reads: volunteer information, reservations, or maintenance email: sprout@drake.edu.

The right side of the sign features two light blue boxes. The first box has an icon of a hand  reaching for a fruit on a branch. Below the icon, the box reads: Picking encouraged. Please taste  and take from the Food Forest. No synthetic pesticides or herbicides have been applied. Only  eat what you can identify and leave some for others. Drake University does not take  responsibility for any adverse effects from the consumption of plants

The second box reads: Sprout Etiquette. To remain a space that everyone can enjoy please:  carry out all waste/litter, leash your dogs, pick up waste, smile! This space is video recorded,  weapons prohibited, report suspicious behavior to Drake Public Safety 515-271-2222.
